A Tribute to the Mountains & Initial D – Canyon Run with Ronin Projects

📅 April 14, 2024

On April 14th, I had the chance to bring a vision to life that had been sitting in the back of my mind for a while: capturing my FD RX-7 on a canyon road in a way that pays homage to the iconic driving scenes from Initial D.

To make it happen, I reached out to Kris from Ronin Projects, someone whose cinematic style I’ve always respected. I wanted the shoot to not just highlight the car, but also tell a story—of night runs, touge roads, and that raw connection between driver and mountain.

We decided on Mt. Charleston, just outside Las Vegas, and it turned out to be the perfect backdrop. The winding roads, the mist in the trees, the changing light—every element came together in a way that felt like something straight out of an anime.

Kris absolutely delivered on the vision. From the way he captured the lines of the FD carving through corners to the subtle nods to classic touge culture, the final cut was everything I hoped for.

Here’s the final video from the Mt. Charleston shoot — a tribute to Initial D and the spirit of canyon driving:

And for those who love the process—here’s a behind-the-scenes look at how we brought it all together:
